1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Pura Life Private Car Rental, also trading as Pura Life Car Rental (“Pura Life,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards information when you visit or use our website, puralifecarrental.com (the “Site”), or make a booking through it.
By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access or use the Site.

2. Information We Collect
We collect information about you in the following ways:
2.1 Information you provide directly. The Site’s booking and rental agreement process is the only place where we ask you to provide personal information. When you book a vehicle, we collect:
- your full name;
- your email address;
- your phone number;
- your selected pickup and drop-off locations;
- your pickup and return dates and times, and the resulting rental duration;
- the vehicle you selected;
- any loyalty or partner discount code you applied;
- your typed signature, which serves as your electronic signature on the rental agreement; and
- a system-generated booking reference and the language in which you used the Site.
2.2 Information collected automatically. The homepage search tool accepts a location and travel dates to filter available vehicles; these entries are used only to display results and are not stored or transmitted to us. Separately, the Site and the third-party services described in Section 4 automatically collect certain technical information when you browse the Site, including the pages you visit, your approximate geographic location (derived from your IP address), your browser and device type, and your IP address.
2.3 Information we do not collect. The Site does not process payments. There is no payment form, checkout process, or payment processor of any kind integrated into the Site. Rental payments are arranged directly with us by cash, SINPE, bank transfer, or a peer-to-peer payment application. No payment card information is transmitted to, processed by, or stored on the Site.
Communications you send us through WhatsApp take place entirely within WhatsApp, between your device and ours. The WhatsApp links on the Site only open your own WhatsApp application with a pre-filled message; the Site itself does not transmit any information to WhatsApp on your behalf.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information described in Section 2 for the following purposes:
- to process and confirm your vehicle rental booking, including preparing and issuing your rental agreement;
- to communicate with you about your booking, including changes to your reservation;
- to apply any discount or promotional code you select;
- to prepare vehicles for pickup at the correct time and location;
- to maintain a record of the rental agreement between you and us; and
- to operate, secure, and improve the Site, including understanding which pages are used and defending the Site against fraudulent or malicious activity.
4. When and With Whom We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only as necessary to operate the Site and fulfill your booking, as follows:
- With you. A copy of your signed rental agreement is sent to the email address you provide.
- Internally. A copy of the same booking record is also delivered to an internal business inbox so that we are notified of new bookings.
- Email delivery provider. We use a third-party email delivery service to transmit booking confirmation emails on our behalf. This provider processes the message content and the recipient address needed to deliver it.
- Analytics provider. We use a website analytics service to understand Site traffic and usage. Our booking process is configured so that this service receives only the fact that a booking step occurred and which vehicle was involved; it does not receive your name, email address, or phone number.
- Microsoft Clarity. We use Microsoft Clarity, a session-recording and heatmap analytics tool, to understand how visitors interact with the Site. Microsoft may collect and process personal data of Site visitors through this tool. Microsoft’s privacy statement is available at https://privacy.microsoft.com/en-us/privacystatement.
- Security service. The Site uses a third-party security service that monitors and blocks suspicious traffic. This service logs information including IP addresses for security purposes.
- Font and map providers. The Site loads typefaces from a third-party web font provider and displays an embedded map from a third-party open mapping service on its Locations page. When your browser loads either resource, that provider may receive your IP address. Neither provider receives any information you submit through the booking process.
- Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required to do so by law, or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
Some of the service providers listed above are located outside Costa Rica, including in the United States and the European Union. Your information may accordingly be processed in those countries.
5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
A cookie is a small data file placed on your device by a website you visit.
- First-party cookie. The Site sets one cookie of its own, which remembers your selected display language as you navigate between pages.
- Third-party cookies. The analytics provider and Microsoft Clarity identified in Section 4 each set their own cookies through their respective scripts when they run in your browser. These cookies help those providers recognize repeat visits and associate the pages of a single visit. They are controlled by those providers, not by us.
You can manage or disable cookies through your browser’s settings at any time, including blocking cookies entirely. Doing so will not prevent you from using the Site, though your language preference may not be remembered between visits.
The Site does not currently display a cookie-consent banner.
6. Data Retention
We retain your booking record and signed rental agreement only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy and to meet our legal and tax record-keeping obligations. Once a record is no longer needed for these purposes, we delete or anonymize it.
Security logs generated by the third-party security service described in Section 4 are retained only for a short period before automatic deletion.
7. Security
We use commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect the information we hold, including the security service described in Section 4. No method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Privacy Rights
As a Costa Rican business, we are subject to Law No. 8968, the Law on the Protection of the Individual with regard to the Processing of Personal Data. Under this law, you have the right to request, free of charge:
- confirmation of what personal information we hold about you;
- correction of information that is inaccurate or out of date;
- deletion of your personal information; and
- disclosure of whether, and with whom, we have shared your personal information.
We will respond to a verified request within five business days, as required by Law 8968. To make a request, use the contact details in Section 12. We may be unable to delete information we are legally required to retain, such as an accounting record connected to a completed transaction; if so, we will identify the record and the basis for retaining it.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with Costa Rica’s data protection authority, the Agencia de Protección de Datos de los Habitantes (PRODHAB).
9. Children’s Privacy
The Site is directed to licensed drivers and is not intended for use by children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us using the details in Section 12 and we will delete it.
10. Links to Other Websites
The Site may contain links to third-party websites that are not operated by us, including the third-party services described in Section 4. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any site you visit.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, including to reflect changes to our practices, such as the addition of an online payment method or a new booking tool. We will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this policy when changes are made. Changes will not be applied retroactively to a booking made before the update without notice to you.
